Uber, currently the world’s largest ride-sharing company, is partnering with various healthcare organizations to offer rides to and from healthcare facilities.

Uber is no longer just a ride to the bar

Healthcare providers will be able to secure rides for patients, if the patient is unable to do so themselves, and a texting option will also be available as well if a patient does not have a smartphone – perhaps the biggest difference between the new feature and the original application.

Uber’s partnership with healthcare organizations also allows Uber Health to schedule rides far ahead of time, up to a month in advance, so patients won’t have to worry about availability, or a surge in pricing, on the day of an important appointment.

And, as patient confidentiality and security is also a factor, Uber has forged a partnership with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act risk-management company Clearwater Compliance, currently the country’s leading company in the field, to keep everything safe and sound, and completely compliant with current regulations.

What we don’t know yet, though, is whether or not Uber Health will be able to offer rides to those persons with disabilities – whether something like the Uber XXL currently offered for larger groups, or any other specific types of vehicles, will be available to those using a wheelchair, etc.

For information on the program, or to set up your next ride to the clinic, visit the Uber Health website.
