Through a generous donation by Denver, CO resident Andrew Perry, and the nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc, the Duluth K9 Police Officer Haas will now be a bit safer working the streets.

A donation of $950 by Mr. Perry has purchased (the friendly and adorable) Haas a bullet and stab-proof vest. The vest will be embroidered with the words, “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.”

Haas should have his vest in the next few weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc is a charity located in East Taunton, MA. Their mission is summed up inthe first paragraph on their website:

“Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. where protecting K9s is our priority. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of Law Enforcement and related agencies throughout the country.”

The charity was founded in 2009, and since then has provided over 2800 bullet and stab protection vests to K9 teams across the United States. This program is open to all dogs that are actively employed on a K9 team be if for law enforcement or another similar career.

The charity affords and provides this added protection for our dogs-in-action through a deal with manufacturers, described as follows: A vest that is valued between $1,744 to $2,283 is provided for a much lower sum of $950. The vest then comes with a 5-year warranty as well, and the charity will replace these vests after the warranty runs out (given that there is the money to do so).
