Golden Milk will be your new favorite way to wind down from the day. This warm, delectable drink is packed with potent medicinal properties and nutrients to promote health and protect against a plethora of different health conditions.

These magic main ingredients in Golden Milk? Just coconut milk, turmeric, and black pepper. By mixing the creamy, white coconut and the bright, orange turmeric, it creates a lovely eponymous golden color giving Golden Milk its name. And the best part is, this cozy and powerful beverage is absolutely delicious.

Known in India as the “spice of life,” turmeric has long been studied and documented for its powerful and incredible health benefits. Turmeric has over 150 therapeutic uses, and its potent power comes from the bioactive chemical curcumin. Curcumin is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and contains anti-cancer properties. By consuming turmeric, you reap endless benefits and can prevent many chronic diseases that stem from inflammation in the body. Turmeric supports liver function, lowers blood sugar levels, promotes better brain and joint health, improves your skin, relieves gastrointestinal ailments, and so much more. And as amazing as this spice is, by combining turmeric with coconut milk and black pepper, the health benefits of Golden Milk increase exponentially.

Coconut milk holds its own as a super food and provides almost as many health benefits as turmeric. Coconut milk promotes weight loss, is rich in antioxidants, and contains essential nutrients including vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and iron. Adding coconut milk not only provides additional health benefits but creates a smooth, creamy base for your Golden Milk.

Black pepper is the third and unassuming magic ingredient in Golden Milk. Black pepper not only contains manganese, iron, vitamin K, and helps calm digestive issues, but it also consists of what’s called alkaloid piperine. Alkaloid piperine increases the bioavailability of nutrients and by adding it in Golden Milk, it enhances the absorption of turmeric’s and coconut milk’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

With turmeric, coconut milk, and black pepper as the foundation, you can play around with the ingredients adding honey for sweetness or ginger for a warm, spicy bite. With the winter months and flu season here, Golden Milk might just be the tasty and comforting drink you’ve been looking for to keep your immune system healthy and your taste buds happy.

Golden Milk Recipe

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric (careful handling turmeric as it easily stains your hands, counters, and clothing)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • Dash of black pepper

Directions:

Mix all ingredients in a medium-size saucepan and heat the mixture for about five minutes bringing it to a simmer. Be sure to keep the Golden Milk from boiling as the extreme heat can damage the nutritional compounds in the ingredients. Once all the ingredients have combined to form a creamy consistency and golden color, remove from the heat, pour, and enjoy.
