St. Paul, Minnesota bills itself as “The most livable city in America” and it might be true – though we don’t have access to the data that quantifies that claim. We love St. Paul, though, and we tend to shout it from the rooftops every time we travel abroad.
The world, however, has yet to take notice. Of St. Paul, Minneapolis, any other city in the state of Minnesota, or any other city in the United States for that matter – Honolulu was the highest-ranked city in the country at #23. Pittsburgh followed, at #32.
It’s cool, though – the U.S. doesn’t have any cities in the bottom 10, either. It’s the little things.
Vienna, Austria took the #1 spot, followed closely Melbourne, Australia – which dropped for the first time in 8 years. Osaka, Calgary, and Sydney rounded out the top 5.
The results for 140 cities around the world were based factors like safety, healthcare, educational resources, and infrastructure, as well crime, corruption, and the environment. The data comes courtesy of The Economist‘s Intelligence Unit, as part of the publisher’s annual Global Liveability Index which ranks the living conditions of cities internationally.
