Watch: Minneapolis icon Prince covered by Brooklyn rapper on Australian radio station

Joey Bada$$, a Brooklyn, New York-based rapper, recently took his turn on the popular Australian radio station triple j’s “Like A Version,” a show featuring contemporary artists covering their favorite songs, as well as originals of their own.

The song he chose? Prince’s 1984 classic “When Doves Cry.” Because there is no corner of the world, and no genre, that Prince hasn’t put his fingerprints on. The new version, called “When Thugs Cry,” offers a new verse from the rapper, tied together with Prince’s original chorus.

Midwest darling Bon Iver has also graced the show, covering Anais Mitchell’s “Coming Down” way back in 2012.
