Homegrown Music Festival –

This annual week long Festival is Duluth’s spotlight of rock and roll music.  With over 180 artists and run completely by volunteers, you are sure to have a gas.  April 30th-May 7th Duluth, MN.  More info @ www.duluthhomegrown.com

Wicked –

100 Mile Garage Sale –

Stretching through 15 historic river towns in southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, this vast sale is sure to produce some treasure.  More info @ www.100milegaragesale.com

Cinco de Mayo festival –

The best place around to celebrate this beautiful holiday is hands down on Cesar Chavez Street, in the dubbed District Del Sol of West STP.  This year it’s held on Saturday May 6th and operates from 9am-6pm.  There will be a parade and performances by local Spanish Immersion schools.  Look for the $1 Coronas and Elotes. Free to the public with plenty of parking.

Kentucky Derby Parties – May 6

Jax Café, NE Mpls – 3:30pm-9:30pm $20/person – Starting with passed apps and the obvious Mint Juleps, giving away prizes for wardrobe and ending with a live band, this might be the most economical and casual choice for a Derby party here in the TC.  Buy tickets @ www.brownpapertickets.com

Dark Horse Bar & Eatery, Lowertown STP – 12-8pm Dark Horse of STP is throwing their Derby party to raise funds for Twin Cities Pride.  Sponsored by Indeed Brewing and Know Creek there will be local DJ sensation SHANNON BLOWTORCH and a fabulous hat competition with prizes like: beer and whiskey for a year and $200 cash money! How bou dat?

The University Club of Saint Paul, Summit Avenue STP – 3pm-7pm $45/person Presented by Artful Living Magazine, with an appetizer buffet, fun photo booth, prizes for best garb, poolside cigar lounge and signature cocktails, this is the big Derby “to do” for the more refined, not to mention the event space is absolutely gorgeous.  Tickets available @ www.universityclubofstpaul.com

Union Rooftop, Downtown MPLS – 12pm-6pm GA $25/person VIP $45/person – This one sounds right up my alley, starts early, has DIY a cigar rolling station, Derby cocktails, the inevitable prize for best hat and occasional outfit, oh and its on a rooftop with a “Turf Club”, where they will have fake grass rolled out for you fun in the sun derby experience.  Dotn forget about the live band and local DJ!  More info @ www.unionmpls.com/derby/#info

Canterbury Park, Shakopee MN 1:45pm-6pm $25-$175/person – This is the self acclaimed “Biggest Derby Party in MN” that will feature live music from Boogie Wonderland on the Mystic Lake Casino Music Stage, Derby Hat Contest, Red Carpet Selfie Station presented by MN Lottery, free pony rides, face painting, and petting zoo! Nicollet Island Pavilion,  Nicollet Island MPLS 1pm-2am $90-$125/person – This “extravaganza” has more gusto behind it than any other talked about Derby event.  Starting with a luncheon and including: live horse games/carriage rides and demonstrations, an extravagant dinner, celebratory Derby cocktails, and outfits so fit for the occasion that they look like costumes from the theater.  Better bring your stuffed pocket book.  Ticket info @ www.eventbrite.com
