Perhaps hoping to avoid the type of music festival fiasco that befell formerly relevant rapper Ja Rule with Fyre (which, if you didn’t hear, ended in complete disaster), Justin Vernon’s sandy-beaches-meets-brooding-artists event Days Have No Numbers has been cancelled.
Tickets went on sale just a few days ago. But now the website looks like this:

The festival was scheduled to run January 21st through the 25th at the all-inclusive resort Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya (near Cancun). The main act, of course, was Bon Iver. But fans were also going to be treated to the likes of Polica, Francis & the Lights, Sylvain Esso, and other acts from Minnesota and Wisconsin.
It’s a shame for those who were looking forward to Vernon’s soft vocals on the sandy beaches of Mexico. Full refunds will be issued, as the above statement promises, but it wasn’t just about the money…
Or maybe it was.
Ticket packages were priced from $1,600 – $3,500. Many locals complained about being priced out of the event (as was reported here by the Star Tribune), but as it was set to be held at an all-inclusive resort, which are generally aimed only at wealthy tourists in the first place, it’s not all that surprising.
In the meantime, fans will have to be content staying home with Bon Iver’s latest album, 22, A Million, which came out last year, and a much cheaper trip to Eau Claire (who needs Mexico when you have Wisconsin?) for a stay at the Oxbow, the singer’s personalized boutique hotel.
Or just wait until next year for Eaux Claires, the summer music fest after which Days Have No Numbers was based.
Or just stick to free listening on the Bon Iver Pandora station.
