Symphony Ball 2018: Sounds of the Cinema

271

Do you have a love for movies? Do the days when movies were still scored by a live orchestra make you smile?

On Saturday May 12, 2018 at two dynamic downtown Minneapolis venues, Orchestra Hall and the Hilton Hotel, the Symphony Ball will bring cinema music to life in the way it used to be. Inspired by the popularity of the Grammy Award-winning Minnesota Orchestra’s “Movies and Music” series, the theme for this years ball will be “Sounds of Cinema.” For those who haven’t made it, the Moves and Music Series brings the Minnesota Orchestra together to perform soundtracks live as a movie plays for the audience.

Music Director Osmo Vanska will conduct a melody of cinematic scores that made some of the most memorable moments in not only in movie history across a range of genres. A film scores, often the unsung hero of the pictures (see what we did there?), is an important, even crucial piece of the movie-going experience. Who can forget the Star Wars theme by John Williams? What would The Godfather be without Nino Rota’s haunting melodies? To top it off, Jeremy Messersmith will being join the orchestra as well for a special performance.

This will be the 62nd annual Symphony Ball, which is also the Orchestra’s most significant annual fundraising event. The event will be chaired by Lloyd and Karen Kepple with Honorary Chairs Dr. Stanley and Luella Goldberg.
