Archers, ready: New archery range coming soon in Burnsville

242

The City of Burnsville will be building a new archery range this summer, 2018.

The current range is located at 1251 Pleasant Avenue, behind the Dodge of Burnsville Dealership (no car windows have been taken out by arrows… yet). The process to build a new one began in 2016, after Dodge of Burnsville approached the City of Burnsville to buy the land where the current range is located.

During a meeting on November 6, 2017, the city approved the sale of the land to Dodge of Burnsville. The land was sold for $370,000, which, at the time, was on par with the appraised value of the lot. That sum, in turn, will be used to build the new archery range, located on Zenith Avenue near the Rudy Kraemer Nature Preserve. As part of the deal, Dodge of Burnsville will contribute up to $14,000 toward construction costs of the new facilities, which are expected to total $383,000.

The current archery range will close to the public on June 30, 2018. Construction on the new range is expected to begin shortly thereafter, and with an estimated August, 2018 completion date.

A feasibility study was conducted before searching for a new site and was deemed a new site would need to meet the following criteria:

  • At least two acres of land dedicated to the range
  • The ability to create a berm or install safety netting
  • Minimal impact to other nearby park amenities
  • The ability to provide parking for 10 to 12 vehicles

And, thankfully for both the area’s archers and for the area’s wildlife, the new site on Zenith Avenue meets all of the above criteria.

More information on the new archery range is expected to be available within in a few months. Questions on the project can be directed to Burnsville Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director Garrett Beck atĀ garrett.beck@burnsvillemn.gov or (952) 895-4516.
