Health and fun and animals and goodwill? Yeah, some people are into that.

5K and Family Fun Run

But you’ll want to get your coffee or morning drink of choice ready for this: The run starts at 8:00am at the Shady Oaks Picnic area, and snakes through the zoo along scenic and beautiful outdoor trails. Registered participants will receive a t-shirt and free admission to the zoo on race day as well. Strollers are allowed on the course, and winning runners will receive a free year-long membership to the Minnesota Zoo.

Though you’re not guaranteed a spot. Hundreds are expected to participate, as John Frawley, Minnesota Zoo Director, tells us, “The Tiger Tracks 5K & Family Fun Run/Walk has grown into an event that hundreds look forward to every year. Of course, we invite all participants to stay at the Zoo after the run and enjoy the animals, the programs, and the atmosphere that make this a truly special place.”

For those less interested in grabbing their sneakers and water bottles for a morning run, the zoo offers another unique experience this October: Mark your calendar for the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, beginning October 4th and running through October 31st. 5,000 illuminated pumpkins are set in an enchanted forest setting, where the art displayed on real pumpkins reflects “A Walk Through Time.” Members receive pricing specials each night.
