According to top golfing site golf.com, more people play golf in Minnesota per capita than any other state. About one out of every five people here hit the links every year.
And that’s why it’s such big news that Dallas-based Topgolf is finally making its way to the Twin Cities: Topgolf offers multi-story driving range facilities with data-tracking microchip balls that allow you to play different target involved games. Better yet? You can play indoors. Say goodbye to golf-less winters.
The company currently has more than 30 locations in the U.S. and U.K.
Ground to break late this year
Brooklyn Center is expected to be the new location for the all-season golf facility. Officials say they expect the deal to finalize and ground to break by the end of 2017, and they expect to be open by next year.
The Mayor of Brooklyn Center, Tom Wilson, said he expects the new Topgolf location to employ 475 people, and bring thousands of visitors to the location year-round.
The company has a deal with Regal to buy the 15-acre property near the intersection of highway 694 and Hwy 252. Zoning and permit requirements are expected to be finalized soon. A site plan filed with the city states that the new facility will have 102 multiplayer bays, 11 exterior targets, a 50-table restaurant, 270 TVs, and two different 3,000 sq foot spaces, one terrace and one to host private event gatherings.
This area of Brooklyn Center is starting to see significant development. Topgolf will play a significant role in continuing the trend: With the increasing movement of the younger generation into the area, we could start to see a boom in this part of Brooklyn Park, as well as other first ring suburbs nearby.
As Minnesota continues to grow as a haven for golfers, the addition of Topgolf adds an entirely new element to our local game: Year round golfing? In Minnesota?
We’ll see you on the green.
