My wife and I recently moved into northeast Minneapolis. Originally living in the western metro suburbs, it’s been quite a fulfilling experience trying out the incredible variety of restaurants in the area.
One place that I’ve become a regular customer at is Holy Land Deli on Central Ave. I remember seeing them on a Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives episode with Guy Fieri a while back and I was reminded of this several times when I walked in for the first time. They were playing the episode on repeat on the TVs.
Since going there the first time about 6 months ago and absolutely loving it, I don’t think there’s a restaurant I’ve been to more times in such a short timespan than this one. It also didn’t help when my wife and I were at silent auction a couple weeks ago and ended up winning a large amount of Holy Land gift certificates to further satisfy our cravings.
I’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu at this point, here’s some meals I can recommend next time you stop in:
Wood-Fired Rotisserie Chicken Combo
Let me just say, this rotisserie chicken is to die for. And ordering just a half-chicken combo meal with rice, salad, and pita bread will be more than enough food for dinner and the next days’s lunch. The chicken is so tender and just falls apart in your hands. Every flavor hits the spot too. The original is great, but if you’re in for a kick, definitely try the spicy or garlic lemon flavors.
The Falafel Combo
Aside from a well known falafel place I had outside of the U.S., this is the best falafel wrap I’ve ever had. And most definitely the best one in the cities. Everything blends together perfectly with perfectly fried falafel, tomato, cucumber, online, lettuce, and top it with cucumber sauce. Yum!
Tandoori Chicken
Again with the mounds of deliciousness. The Tandoori is basted in garlic and onion and smothered in spicy tandoori paste. Every piece is a mouth watering delicacy. You’ll get a nice sized accompaniment of rice with this dish as well.
Gyro Wrap
You can’t go wrong with a gyro. And you definitely can’t go wrong with the gyro voted best in the Twin Cities. Tender slices of beef are accompanied with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and tahini sauce in this pocket bread wonder of the world.
